About the Author

Bruce Murphy was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania. His family moved thirty miles south to the town of Kane where he lived until graduating from Kane High School in 1953. He then entered the U.S. Army and for five years served with the 11th Airborne Division in Kentucky, Panama, and Germany. The next three and a half years were spent at Clarion State Teachers College (now Clarion University) earning his teaching credentials in English and Speech. While at Clarion he met and married Diana Hemstreet. Their son Christopher was born in 1961. After graduation in January 1962, the Murphy family moved to Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Both Bruce and his wife Diana taught in the Penn Hills School District in suburban Pittsburgh. During this period he earned his Masters Degree from Duquesne University and a diploma in educational administration from the University of Pittsburgh. After retirement Bruce began writing seriously. He has had short stories accepted by the University of South Florida’s Sunscripts and the Pennsylvania Game News. His First novel, The Joker and the Chest, was published in 2002.
