About the Book
Stanley Wade is inducted into the Army Air Corps during World War II as a callow eighteen year old, and is sent eight hundred miles from the security of home to endure the rigors of Basic training. The story describes his maturation as he undergoes training to become a radio operator and aerial gunner on a B-17 bomber. His emotions run the gamut as he falls in love with and ultimately marries vibrantly beautiful Sue Ellen Wilkins; and then is forced to leave her when he is sent to be a part of the massive Eighth Air Corps attack on Nazi Germany.
