About the Book
The Second Promise picks up where Secrets and Consequences left off. Well, almost. Jake meets Sonny Claiborne, the youngest daughter of Judge Ulysses Claiborne. Then Jake learns that Congressman Harrison Stevens has been murdered and that Sonny is about to be charged with killing the popular young congressman. In jail awaiting arraignment, Sonny desperately wants to tell Jake about promises Sonny made to Congressman Stevens--promises she claims Stevens demanded. Amid perplexing addition by subtraction the results of Secrets, there is a sense of betrayal because Sonny never spoke of her relationship with Stevens. Jake has to decide whether to see Sonny, to listen to her story, and possibly to help her. Sonny’s promises create bitter conflicts not the least of which involve Jake, Sonny and Judge Claiborne. To save Sonny and resolve the conflicts, Jake must uncover the truth about Harrison Stevens. In the process, he learns a great deal about himself and about someone else as well.
