About the Author

Dr. Juan Silverio was born in Havana, Cuba. At the early age of 12 he was exiled to Tampa, Florida, with his father, mother, and sister. His father, at the time a major in the Medical Corps of the Cuban Army, was forced to leave his home as a result of Batista’s military coup. In Tampa, Dr. Silverio attended and graduated from Jesuit High School. Later, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University in New Orleans. From there, he returned to Cuba and fi nished his studies at the Medical School of the University of Havana. Midway through the 20th century, politics again shifted in Cuba, this time by the communist regime of Fidel Castro, and Dr. Silverio was again forced into exile. Presently he lives in Key Biscayne, Florida, and practices pediatrics. Dr. Silverio has written three books of poetry in Spanish and is the coauthor of the compendium entitled Greater Miami: Spirit of Cuban Enterprise (Copperfi eld Publications, Inc., Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 1996). Furthermore, he has collaborated on eight anthologies of English poetry.
