About the Book

This novel traces the life of a girl born to Irish parents in the little town of Appleton, Maine. Her rise from obscurity was accomplished with grit, determination and optimism. Though some might consider her life a painful struggle against adversity her indomitable spirit presents a story of great courage demonstrating the strength of the human spirit.

About the Author

Author Jean Edwards lives in Appleton, Maine on the banks of the St. George River. This is her third Mattie McCracken children’s book. She also writes Maine based historical novels and books of poetry about the Pine Tree State. Mattie is portrayed by Madison Edwards and Byron by her brother, Thomas. Tutu is a well remembered family pet.
