About the Book
At the forefront of the conscience of America’ large voting population is the outcome of our nation’s battle in Iraq and against terrorism. . These two historic events have already cost the United States more than 3,000 fatalities in the “911 attacks” and an even 3arger number of US combatant deaths in the Near East.
Directly linked to the above factors, is the 2008 Presidential election. There is no incumbent for that preeminent office and the contest for the Oval Office is wide open to all comers. New more effective leadership and results are required and all candidates will be screened by voters for their perceived abilities to “do the job!”
Who will emerge as the desperately needed leader who will rise to the enormous challenge of directing the nation out of the Near East wilderness? Will it be a popular vote getter who will prove to be a weakling and not end the problem—possibly one who will retreat shamelessly and still keep America under a terrorist cloud?. Or will a real leader be elected who will produce a victory and unblemished honor!
The new President who could rise to the occasion could readily be a heroic woman!
The above is the intriguing theme that runs through this highly realistic humanistic account of the life and adventures of Dr, Martha Stetson—a superb model for America’s First Woman President.
Her growth from a talented, impassioned, love-struck college student, to highly skilled battlefield surgeon and helicopter warrior is presented in the excerpt of the novel presented here. Subsequent episodes present tremendous insights into America at the crossroad and a penetrating psychic (and spiritual) profile of this powerful woman.
Dr. Martha Stetson boldly confronts the barriers to her gender’s progress in world history and sets the high standard achievable by a woman who seeks the glory of the highest elected office in the world.
About the Author
Stephen O. Hero is a multifaceted writer who served in the US Army, received an MA in comparative literature and follows a career as a journalist, specializing in Wall Street affairs. These elements and deep interest in cultural matters inspired him to contemplate America’s complex condition at the start of the Third Millennium and to crystallize the problems and potential answers in his third novel, First Woman President. In addition to his journalistic and creative writing, S.O. Hero has been painting for 15 years. He had several one man shows, including two such events at the World Trade Center before its destruction—which, painfully, he witnessed on Nine Eleven. He resides with his family in a Manhattan suburb where he was born, educated and married. He reads history, often metaphorically, and thereby of late has been convinced that some outstanding woman will emerge who will make his fiction a reality. The time is right, conditions are right and the way is clear. When will America be ready to vote for a select woman with a silken hand and a brilliant world-outlook? If not in 2008…. how soon after will the great challenges facing the US be turned over for solution by the First Woman President!
