Book of African-inspired Poetry Released Stephen Abara brings refined works of word art to the attention of the world, sharing the culture and challenges of Africa with the rest of humankind ONTARIO, Canada-- In 2008, Stephen Abara, at that time the president of the Glendon African Network, set out to organize a poetry competition within their university to further espouse understanding and support for the African people, their culture, and the challenges that face them. This book, ANTHOLOGY OF AFRICAN POETRY, is an outgrowth of that poetry competition, bringing the beauty, emotions, and sentiments of these Africa-inspired poets to a broader audience. In this charming, informative and highly educative book-Anthology of African Poetry-written in English and French by the young intellects at Glendon College, York University, readers will come to realize that one cannot run away from his or her problems. The past can always be found in the present, and has proven to be essential to oral tradition and literature. The poems in this book are both traditional, free verse and modern. They aim to provide readers of African descent and non-Africans with an enhanced understanding of African lifestyle and identity. About the Author
Stephen Abara is a Nigeria-Canadian Author of two books, and poet who founded the Glendon African Foundation Canada where he serves as GAF’s chairman. He was a two tenured Senator Rep. at York University and the winner of the Glendon African Poetry competition at University in 2008-09, and the Author and Editor of the 'Best Selling book of African Inspired Poetry titled,' Anthology of African Poetry, U.S.A. Prior to his immigration to Canada in 2004, and subsequent travels to the United States, he studied philosophy and Arts; and graduated with double honours degrees from Federal University of Port-Harcourt and Urban University Rome. In his pursuit of a career in diplomacy, management and international relations, he commenced studies at Glendon College York University, where he graduated with honours in international studies and political science. His leadership credentials and interest in meeting people and new challenges led to his establishment of the Glendon Africa Network at Glendon College, York University in 2007. The Glendon Africa Network is a student-led organization for all students of Glendon College, York University. The club works to improve on the multicultural interactions and understandings at Glendon. It seeks to provide African students, students of African descent, and the larger Glendon population with an enhanced understanding of African lifestyle and identity. He has performed Spoken and Heard Poetry across Canada both at the University, Toronto Library, Rise Poetry group Scarborough, Up from the roots at Harlem, Toronto, Congo International Conferences, Nubian Spoken Word Events, Ibo Religious Event in Etobicoke, Afro Fest 2012, Poetry Express Book Launch Accent on Eglinton, Rathburn Youth Centre event on Anti-Violence and Anti Bullying among Youths in Canada, Healing the wounds-Dreams Affected by Violence Somalian Student Association York University, and currently the Miss Black Beauty Canada 2012 Stephen's love of Poetry and writing has inspired his collection and creation of a range of poems, fiction, and non-fiction, and drama. He’s forthcoming book is a drama titled, “OMEIHE JIDE OFO! AFO”- a book with a universal message. Stephen has widely travelled across Europe, America and Africa, and has never stopped learning new things while reading and writing Poetry. His book and articles have been featured on more than 15 international Newspapers and magazines.
