About the Book
The spring my granddaughter Samantha turned 3, we were walking in the yard when I pointed out a bumble bee. She asked me, “Bobi, what makes that bumble bee buzz?” I, in turn asked her what she thought made it buzz. She answered, “Maybe he’s talking to his brothers and sisters.” I thought that was a great answer and added, “Or maybe it has something to do with his fuzz!” That made her laugh and so the “bumble bee poem” was begun. I had quite a bit written when my other granddaughter Abigayle came for a visit. I asked her some “bumble bee” questions and was so delighted with her imaginative answers that I was inspired to do a “bumble bee project” with my girls. I’ve always encouraged the girls to draw. It’s one of the things we do together. This summer they’ve been busy drawing bumble bees and people for the poem and I’ve watched them blossom and gain confidence in their abilities. That’s when I knew that “The Bumble Bee Book” needed to become more than just a fun poem, but also a message to children: YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!! Samantha Anne Hampton 5, and Abigayle Briana McNary 4 ½, illustrated a book! As their grandmother, I couldn’t be more proud!
