About the Book

"“Sea Captain K. Weatherall Pepper” is the second in a series of six books written by the author. These stories first came to his attention while researching his family genealogy. Captain Pepper was one of a number of Catholic sea captains cashiered by the Royal Navy of England, after the beheading of King Charles the first, for refusing to renounce his faith. The Puritans pressed for all Catholics to be purged. This event came at an opportune time for John Greenwell, who needed sea captains to operate the new ships he had ordered to carry his tobacco to the markets in Europe from Maryland. At the age of forty five years, having recently retired from the Royal Navy, Captain Pepper had immigrated to St. Mary’s County in Maryland, where he would now serve as captain of the “Mary Knowland.” She was a sailing vessel, heavily armed to protect her valuable cargo from being intercepted by Pirates, who cruised the seas in the late sixteen hundreds."

About the Author

A Historical Novel closely gathered around the Greenwell Family The Author is a member of that massive Genealogy. He spent forty years combing through archives both here and abroad in England tracing its history. Due to the antiquity of the family much of the history could not be found with the documentation. Therefore, it was necessary to improvise in order to keep the time line consistent. It is presented here, for the story, while basically true, could not be documented. During that period records were not collected in a central repository and were often destroyed by the ravages of time, natural disasters ,wars and civil disturbances.
