About the Book
This book is about the history of Turner Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church–Washington, DC, (1915–2015). Named after Bishop Henry McNeal Turner, Turner Memorial has a rich history of spiritual activism and social-political participation. This book surveys the church’s rich history by covering the AME Church’s journey into Washington, DC, the establishment of the Turner Memorial congregation (1915), and the ministerial and lay leaders of the church.
About the Author
Rev. Aaron Miles Treadwell is a bi-vocational minister, and was ordained in the eleventh district as an itenerant deacon in 2011, and elder in 2013. Rev. Treadwell has pastored a church in Florida, and served as an Assistant Pastor in Florida, Georgia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Rev. Treadwell’s academic studies has focused on the habits and methods of Black Spirituality in America. He graduated from Howard University with a PhD in History, with a focus on African-American Spirituality.
