About the Book

Solo’s Nose Is Out of Control is a 948-word picture book about a six-year-old boy who hates eating vegetables. The book is meant to be fun and silly while stressing the importance of eating vegetables to inner-city students. Solo’s mother has tried everything she could possibly do to get Solo to eat his vegetables, even veggie smoothies and popsicles, but nothing works. Solo comes down with a cold that causes him to sneeze until his nose grows bigger than a cantaloupe, then a watermelon, and then an even bigger watermelon. Eager to shrink his nose back down to size, Solo starts to eat his vegetables and even learns to like them.

About the Author

Tracy Matthews is a 31 year old New York City Native. She is a graduate of Delaware State University and Morgan State University. She holds a bachelors and masters in social work. She is currently a 2nd grade teacher in Baltimore City. Ms. Matthews has been working with inner-city children since 2008. She is honored to be an AmeriCorps alumna. She enjoys meeting people of different races and of different religious backgrounds. While in college she studied abroad in Namibia, Africa and Beijing, China. Tracy began writing children’s books in 2008. In her nine years of working with inner-city children she has rarely seen books featuring or of interest to children of color, and believes “Solo’s Nose Is Out of Control” can be the first of a series that helps redress that disparity. Other titles that she is currently developing are “Solo and the Breakfast Club Rescues Jonathan” and “Solo, the Blueberry Muffin, and the Mouse.” When Tracy is not writing she is spending time with her family and friends. Most importantly she enjoys being a mom to her three year old son Solomon.
