Shrouded by the cold winter mist, the surrounding hills hugged the valley in an endless embrace, as if to keep warm. One day, a single long strand of fog snaked its way down the valley ridges, slithering closer to the centre of the swamp. The warmth and shelter of the valley had attracted this nebulous creature. It had found a home.

This book is a created legend. It starts with Māori mythology around the creation of Aotearoa, New Zealand, before moving to how the landscapes of Wainuiomata and Pukeatua were created. This book is in both English and Te Reo Māori.

Niky Clegg is a teacher in Wellington, New Zealand. She has written mainly for her students in the past and is now writing children's books, and poetry.
