About the Book

“I know that when I wake, my surgery will be done, my body will be better, and I’ll soon be having fun.” Bella is going to the hospital to have a surgery. She’s feeling all the nervous and indescribable feelings that children and adults alike feel when visiting the hospital. This poetic book will take Bella through the journey of anesthesia and going to sleep for her procedure, allowing her to feel apprehensive yet curious. Sweet Dreams will encourage kids and parents to overcome some of their fears surrounding anesthesia while also reassuring children that “if my body is sick again, and I have to return, I’ll know to not be nervous because of what I’ve learned.”

About the Author

Emily Klinefelter is a mom and a pediatric certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). She has a BA from Saint Louis University, BSN and MSN from Rush University and is currently working on her DNAP from Virginia Commonwealth University. Shortly after entering the specialty of pediatrics, Emily noticed the need for an additional resource that would help prepare kids and their families undergoing anesthesia for a procedure. Being a mom of two small girls, she understands the value of books for her children and the impact books can have on a child’s comprehension of a situation. For this reason, Emily wrote Sweet Dreams, a book that helps kids better understand anesthesia and prepare their surgical experience. Her hope is that the knowledge this book provides will help ease the anxiety and stress surrounding the anesthesia experience for many children.
