About the Book

Mommy and Me at the Boston Kite Festival is set in 1980s Boston. The main characters are five-year-old Okie and his mom, who live in Brigham Circle. While her husband is in his country, Nigeria, performing community service in the youth corp after being educated in America, Okie and his mom enjoy great adventures! One of which is attending the Boston Kite Festival. The pair take a trolley ride, connecting to the subway downtown on to Forest Hills Station. A short bus ride and the two are at the kite festival! Walking through Franklin Park, the aroma from the hot dog and Italian sausage stands and the sight of ice-cream and slush carts all add to the excitement of the Kite Festival. The two plant themselves on a grassy hill covered in soft green grass where Okie can fly his kite! Okie’s kite is flying high without lots of running. The right position keeps him enjoying his high-flying kite for hours. After a couple of hours, he catches the eye of a reporter, who speaks to Okie’s mom and is permitted to talk with him about kites. A delightful end to this story is sure to please kite-flying fans!
