“Susan, it is almost 4:30 pm and you are still here at work.” “Aren’t you supposed to be meeting your handsome fiancé at the Club?”
“You’re right Jan, and I’m way behind on my presentations for tomorrow morning.” “Could you please finish up this report for me and I promise you that I’ll make it up to you?”
“Jan, I really think that James is going to pop the question tonight and I am so excited that I just can’t focus on my work right now.”
“Well girl, then you get yourself out of here right now, and don’t worry about this report, because I will finish it up for you, but remember that you owe me.”
“Thanks so much, Jan, and wish me luck.”
Susan rushed out of her office at the Advertising Agency, going to the elevator, and then went down the 27 floors to the lobby. Susan had her own car in the underground garage, but she hailed a cab instead, thinking it would be faster for her since she was running late to meet her fiancé, James Winston Thornton.
After several minutes, she arrived at the restaurant where the driver said, “Miss, we have arrived at the Club Med. Stepping out of the cab, Susan took a deep breath, before entering the restaurant and then walked inside, where she looked around for James, but she didn’t see him at first, so she asked the waiter, “Excuse me, I’m here to meet a Mr. James Thornton tonight, has he arrived yet?”
The waiter replied, “Yes, Madam, I’ll show you to his table, please follow me.”
Susan saw James in a far booth sitting with a very young and attractive girl. Susan told the waiter she saw her date, so the waiter went back to his duties.
Susan quickly hid behind a large palm plant, near James, and she heard him talking, “You had better go over to your own table, Angel, because my finance is due to arrive here very soon, and we don’t want her to see us together.” James kissed her on the lips before she walked across the room to her table.
Susan waited until the girl had sat down at her table, before she walked over to James, acting as if she had just arrived, “Hi sweetheart, have you been waiting very long for me?”
James looked up at her with a blank stare in his eyes, “No, babe, actually, I just arrived shortly before you.” “Were you held up at work, because I thought we were to meet here at 4:30 and it is nearly five now.”
Susan sensed coldness in his tone of voice, as she answered, “Well James, if you just arrived here, then I guess you were late in arriving, as well.”
James got a questioning look on his face, “Is something wrong sweetie?” “You seem a little tense tonight and I wanted this night to be special for us.”
“Special?” “You want this night to be special, and you are making out with a bimbo, while you are waiting for me?” “I don’t call that SPECIAL James.” “How could you do that to me, after all these years we have been together?”
“But sweetie, I don’t know what you mean.” “I’ve been here, alone, waiting for the love of my life, so how could you say something like that?”
“James, I saw you with that bimbo, and you kissed her, the very way you used to kiss me.” “Now don’t deny it, because I just saw you do it a few moments ago.”
“Oh, sweetie, that was just a co-worker of mine, and I was just being friendly to her, because she just had a death in her family, and that is the truth.”
“Oh yeah, there is a death all right, but it is the death of our relationship, because you are a two-timing JERK.”
Susan was at a loss for words, so she reached for his glass of champagne and threw it in his face, “You jerk, I supported you through college, and I gave you the best 6 years of my life, and this is the way you treat me?” “I never want to see you ever again!”
Susan stormed out of the restaurant as the people in the room were staring at them in awe. Susan waved for a cab, while tears rolled down her face, and behind her, James was calling after her, “But sweetie, I love you and I would never do anything to hurt you.” “Sweetie…..” And then Susan was out of sight as James stood there in utter embarrassment, while shaking his head in disgust.
