About the Book
This book is highly praised by me because it provides a detailed account of the history of the dental profession, highlighting significant milestones, untold stories, and hidden legacies. The timelines provide a historical perspective for underrepresented minorities and the entire dental profession. History is critical for the entire profession as we navigate and educate the current and next generation of dental professionals in our national and global academic dental institutions. This book is a call to action for diversity and inclusion of all health care professionals, and I encourage every educator, administrator, and student to share the value of this magnificent book.

All too often, history, particularly science, has been whitewashed. The book, The Science and Art of Dentistry: Historical Milestones, Untold Stories, and Hidden Legacies, by authors Sinkford, Grant-Mills, Mncube-Barnes, and Stokes pulls the veil of ignorance and reveals the diverse origins of dentistry. In so doing, they demonstrate that there was not one path, but multiple paths across multiple continents involving multiple peoples that must be considered. The book, therefore, represents a triumph of both scholarship and truth as we discover how dentistry evolved.
