About the Book

After the Memorial Day weekend, 1982, the manager of the JC Penney store in Monroe, Wisconsin discovered an overnight break-in and cash receipts stolen from a locked safe in his office. He immediately called the Chief of Police, Brandon Johns, to report the theft. Johns contacted the Forensics team in Madison and along with Detective Samantha Gates, drew up a plan to solve the burglary and recover the stolen money.

Two days later, the murdered body of Ted Garwell was discovered in his backyard. Suddenly the police were dealing with two unsolved cases instead of one. The coincidence of the two crimes being days apart led the police to theorize that the two were connected.

Chief Johns and Detective Gates started dual investigations hoping that solving the robbery would lead to cracking the murder case as well. Public sentiment was at a fever pitch. The pressure was on to solve these crimes and restore order to the city.

As the investigations unfold numerous suspects were identified and interviewed. Lies and deceptions flowed as each of the suspects tried to keep their secrets and skeletons in the closet. As the PD doggedly pursued the evidence with its many twists, turns and surprises, would they untangle all the knots and bring the criminals to justice?
