About the Book

Adversity was the inspiration for my book. My Granddad, baking the village bread one Sunday evening, was berated by churchgoers, “Hey, Six days shalt thou labour, baker!” He replied, “Ah, and on the seventh do odd jobs!” The fi rst poem I wrote is named so, and it was ALL true! Some of the poems have a touch of sadness, humour or cynicism depending a lot on my degree of chaos or peace at the time. There are three about Mum-in- Law which always made us laugh at family get togethers with her and Dad, but even so they stayed together to the end! Empathy, having lived out west, was the reason for the three with humour for the kids who live in the outback. Basically the rest are a real mixture about ploughing through life, the hard and soft parts, hopefully with sharp blades!

About the Author

Jan is from the U.K, was a nursing sister, is married with two sons, one daughter, (all Aussies) 4 natural grandkids and 3 ‘step-grandkids.’ After 27 moves she settled near a small fi shing village called Tin Can Bay. Jan started writing poems 30 years ago. Their military house was falling to pieces, she was recovering from surgery, her husband was away for three months, their 2 year old kept absconding through the broken fence, so it was a case of go mad… or write a poem. She chose the latter! Hence... “And On The Seventh Do Odd Jobs.” This poem fl owed easily as it was ALL true! Writing the poem she could see the funny side of it all, got release from stress and continues to write when emotions drive her. So, here is a selection, after 30years of being a ‘cupboard poet.’
