About the Book
Poetry is a subject which requires much appreciation. A taste for Poetry is acquired and therefore you really need to be a lover of Poetry to enjoy reading it!! I always enjoyed reading Poetry. My favourite Poets are Wordsworth and Keats. I started writing Poems when I was quite young (in School). My Mother, who was a Teacher was the first person to teach me the alphabets and she is also the first person to help me and encourage me to develop my writing skills. My Teachers helped too when I went to School…but it was my Mother who first laid the foundation for my writing. The themes for my Poems in this book have been taken from real-life experiences and they cover India and Australia, as I have lived in India for most of my life and am now living in Australia. There are many issues which I feel very strongly about and I have expressed some of those feelings in some of my Poems. Especially issues that concern women, like the dowry, are issues which (though they are being dealt with) are issues that still occur in India. The practice of Sati (the practice of a wife having to throw herself on her husband’s pyre), the treatment of girls in general (as compared to boys) are also practices that are not acceptable. (For the record, the practice of Sati has been banned in India) Very often people read about something and though they may have some empathy, they don’t feel involved enough to take action. I hope that my book will give the readers an opportunity to learn about what still happens around the world! I have taken much time to write these Poems and they come straight from the heart and soul. I hope the readers get as much pleasure in reading “Mirrors of the Soul” as much as I derived in writing the book!
