About the Book

In her book “A Flame beyond the Darkness of Pain (A Widow’s Wilderness Worship Sound)”, Emily bares the innermost part of her soul as she openly and honestly shares her story with her readers. Her testimonies in the book run parallel with Biblical examples. It is a book of encouragement, teaching and hope but also a warning of the pitfalls that preconceived ideas can make one fall into. Emily places her husband in his rightful place as the head and spiritual leader of the home and the love she has for him runs through her narrative. She effectively does away with stigmas, cultures and traditions which tend to define who we are and points to Christ as the One who defines who we really are. Emily allows widows to understand that they are not inferior but that God has elevated the widow. He becomes their husband and they no longer keep their eyes fixed on their loss but on their Creator. This is a “must read” for everyone, especially for widows who so often struggle to come to terms with the loss of their husbands. It is also a very helpful resource to married couples as they discover the true meaning of marriage and the importance of placing God at the centre of their lives. About the Author

Pastor Emily Owusu Sekyere was born in Zambia. She attended Matero Girls High School before proceeding to study Accounting with Sirisai Accounting College.  She then worked for the Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (PTC) in Ndola, Zambia.

Emily also studied Theology with Teamwork Impact Bible University where she graduated with a Certificate in Theology and Diploma in Ministry.  She is currently working towards completing her degree in Christian Counseling with the same university.  She completed her pastoral studies and is an ordained Minister of the Gospel by the Impact Christian University.  She serves on the Pastoral Team of the Water of Life Assembly of God Church in Queenstown, South Africa.

Emily married Charles Owusu Sekyere a Ghanaian Computer Physicist in 1991 before moving to South Africa in 1994. They were blessed with two sons, Nana Kwaku and Kwadwo.  As a Christian family, they strived to live by the Word of God even when they were in South Africa.

Sadly, Charles passed away on 17 October 2009 which meant that Emily had to face the challenges of widowhood at an early age. In her period of loss, Emily noticed that widowhood is a rough road as evidenced by the challenges that she passionately explains in this book. Firstly, widowhood opens one’s eyes to a multitude of challenges that intrude into one’s life; all demanding immediate answers from someone who still has to deal with the emotional pain of losing a spouse. Challenges like financial wellbeing, difference of opinions regarding burial, general hopelessness and despair, loneliness and the possibility of remarriage can push a widow to the darkness of depression.

With this in mind, Emily realized that even the other widows who were more experienced than she was had little to offer when it came to practical advice. In this inspiring autobiography, she strives to guide widows with practical examples from biblical as well as her own experiences.

This book strives not only to comfort widows in their period of loss, but also to give practical help all based on the bible. Since widowhood does not respect age or social status, this book is dedicated to the millions of widows out there who might be at the verge of a nervous breakdown. She hopes this book will uplift their spirits and give them renewed hope in Jesus Christ our savior.
