About the Book

The inevitability as well as necessity of a true United Nations autonomous military unit, to effect timely intervention with a genuine fighting capability as well as 'real time' quick reaction designation (without the current shackles and restrictions of conventional peacekeeping as presently done by the UN or NATO) is a desire of millions of the worlds civilian population, as well as to those military personnel currently serving the world over as 'peacekeepers.' For that reason, this novel will be of great interest to these millions, as well as those serving military personnel currently on Active Duty. It will also echo what many veterans throughout the world feel. It is the missing link needed in international peacekeeping - a force capable of creating that stable platform necessary for the conventional peacekeepers to come in after. It will also put the UN on a level playing field with the world's tyrants for the first time in history!

To that end, I have endeavoured to put this story together hoping to capture a formation, evolution, colour and humour as such units have. The added romantic element bonds and strengthens its realism and does not interfere with the greater military conflict, nor does it over-shadow it. All the qualities and abilities that the current mass market hero books have, are here in abundance.

"The Sabre Brigade United Nations" is the story of a newly formed multi-national unit of elite soldiers selected from the world's top Special Forces: SAS, Paras, SBS, Legionnaires, JTF, Seals, USSF, Recon, Marines - they are all gathered! Breaking the mould of past/current 'conventional' peacekeepers, these specialists are brought together to be the very first 'fighting soldiers' of the United Nations. Their evolution, formation, training and eventual coming together is all done in the mountains of Montana, USA, on the original site of the real life First Special Service Force.

The main characters of "The Sabre Brigade United Nations" are all officers and NCOs who, through their individual traits, ranks, differing cultures and relevant experiences have to overcome their prejudices and past loyalties to gel into a cohesive effective fighting force.

The leader of "The Sabre Brigade United Nations" is career soldier General MacKenzie Logan. The main character of the story is Sgt. Ben Steele, a veteran of the British Parachute Regiment and 22 SAS Regt. Initially, Sgt. Steele is tasked with a VIP/Executive Protection detail for Brigadier General Thomas Crenshaw, not knowing he also will ultimately become a major player in the implementation of "The Sabre Brigade United Nations."

While on detail for the General, Sgt. Steele becomes romantically involved with the General's daughter, the beautiful Jane Crenshaw, who happens to be an officer herself in the British Army Intelligence Corps. Their romance is the major focus until his sudden departure from England to join The Sabre Brigade. From then on, the romance is a backdrop to the intensifying suspense around the formation of The Sabre Brigade - and the impending war. While the eventual location is Bosnia and Hertzogovinia, it is all started when the Serbs invade Kosovo!

General Logan initially inserts a recce troop from his Mountain & Special Warfare Company into the ravaged and war-torn Bosnia, to evaluate the Serb positions and strength. Based on that gathered knowledge and intelligence, the General formulates a tactical battle plan that will take The Sabre Brigade into action. Their objective this time is to defeat the Serbs, re-establish legitimate borders and prevent further ethnic cleansing while still saving the city of Sarejevo from complete annihilation.

The actual battle scenarios, tactics, strategies and consolidations encompass the entire  Sabre Brigade as it separates and splinters to achieve the individual objectives necessary for a successful outcome in its battle against the Serbs for control of

About the Author

The author was a serving soldier in Royal Engineers and Airborne, in one of the toughest most professional armed forces in the world, namely the British Army. It is where he gained the knowledge and experience which is the foundation of this book. He left the UK in the mid 70s to settle in Greater Vancouver, Canada. Having worked predominantly in a 'high profile' security environment, common sense tells him that safety and privacy are two of his most valued assets - he is reluctant to trade on either! In between writing on his computer surrounded by an eclectic collection of lifetime memorabilia - which his wife classifies as 'junk,' the magnetic allure of the internet afford ample opportunity for distraction. Well travelled and an accomplished outdoorsman, he enjoys hiking with his wife on Canada's spectacular west coast trails.
