About the Book

On August 6th, 1945, as the atom bomb was exploding over Hiroshima, Einstein declared, "Everything has changed, except our way of thinking."  On that day, an old world died, and with it, an old spirituality.  The old world, called the Modern World, was built on fragmentation and radical individualism.  In its mindset, spirituality was relegated to private piety and to the periphery of everyday society.     A new world has now been born, and with it, an new spirituality.  This new world is an interconnected web of wholeness from which are emerging galaxies of new possibilities.  In this new world, the Big Bang, evolution and Genesis can be reconciled to give us an exciting new view of what it means to be human.   Spirituality is woven into the fabric of the new world, opening everyone to a new, personal experience of God, and making individuals, families, communities, education, the arts, science, politics and economics--all of society--transparent to reveal the Spirit of God dwelling within the world and calling us to reshape the world with greater justice, peace, freedom, hope, joy and compassion. In the words of mystic Teilhard de Chardin, "A fresh kind of life is starting".     The new spirituality, while Christian, is totally ecumenical.  It gives full respect to other religions and to all people of good will, and it reaches out and embraces all of history--from the wisdom of the ancient world and Native cultures, to the East and Africa, to Galileo, individual freedom and rights, Darwin and Freud, to the new insights of Einstein and Hawking, to the luminous humanity of Rosa Parks and Gandhi, to all women and men, to ecology, and to the movement toward full human and spiritual rights for all people.  It is the new dance of Christ, to which all are invited.
