About the Book
“The Ultimate Game” is a time-travel fantasy, combining modern day settings, as well as historical figures and events. The modern-day part takes place in San Francisco.
A valuable alien crystal globe, with power to control time and space, has been stolen hundreds of years ago. It, in turn, was stolen back and hidden on earth, in different historical periods. The locations of these relics were guarded by a society called the “Time Guardians.” In order to keep the crystal’s location a secret, a map of it is kept on a CD-ROM disguised as a computer game.
Alex, a high school student (not a very good one) and an avid computer game freak stumbles on to it by accident, and finds himself suddenly stuck in a different time period.
His friend Chris, aided by college student Jamie (who, unknowingly, is one of the last of the “Time Guardian” descendents) keep track of Alex via the computer, and must help him proceed to each level by solving riddles which came with the disk.
Alex’s goal is to collect a piece of the crystal globe in each level (18th century France, the old west, old England, underwater, Ancient Egypt, 1930’s Chicago.) Chris must stop the sinister Michael Darsch (an alien) from obtaining the disk. Computer-store owner Jake Bradford also assists him.
The story unfolds simultaneously (both in the past and present), and spans several months.
