The time is late 1944. American forces are gradually overwhelming the soldiers of the Japaneses Empire as, one by one, their island bases fall to the allies. More and more American men and supplies are leaving the continental United States for the campaign against the Japanese home islands themselves. Young seaman Bill Knowles has signed aboard the merchant ship S.S. Cape Blair, departing from San Francisco, loaded with war material, for the Far East and for participation in the final phases of World War II.
About the Author
Carl Henry Marcoux served as a seaman in the United States Merchant Marine during World War II. Following boot camp at Catalina Island in mid-1944, Marcoux sailed as a deck hand on a number of merchant vessels into conflict areas. His ships participated in the invasion of the Philippines and Okinawa before the war ended in August, 1945.
