About the Book
This is a war story like many others, in many ways however, it is not about battlefields, winning and losing, but primarily about raw political power and one family the Trewhitts, whose lives were destroyed when they were caught up in the maelstrom. This fictionalized account is based upon true events in the lives of three of its members, Levi Trewhitt and his sons Andrew and Daniel.
With the advent of the Civil War and the “Insurrection” (as it was called in the Official Records of the U.S.Government), the people of the eastern counties of Tennessee were fast approaching an internal conflict. This “war within a war” developed when the unionists in the population aligned against the occupying Confederate army.
This little known story is an interesting chapter in the history of America’s Civil War.
