About the Book

“The Best of Dot Com Humor” grew out of an increasing dependence on the Internet by my business. As we became more involved in communicating, transferring information and redefining customer relationships with the use of the Internet, so too did we spend more time in frivolous communication with business associates and friends on the Internet. Soon we were communicating with friends of friends and associates. The exponential growth through the Internet led to a field of entertainment and humor that was almost boundless.

In addition to receiving and sending stories, audio clips, video clips, cartoons, jokes, etc., I began to keep the very best of the litter in a file. Eventually, my friends and the material in the file begged for publication.

Once the decision to publish was made, my first trip was via the Internet to Amazon.com and my second endeavor was a visit to the closest Barnes and Noble. Both stops told me a great deal about what I did not want in my book. Along parade of stories was not my only goal. I wanted the reader to think about how the Internet has changed humor and how the reader might use humor in every day life to improve communication skills and effectiveness. I also wished to save the reader one hell of a lot of time by listing some of the really humorous sites on the Internet. Unfortunately, really good humor is as rare as rocking horse manure to find anywhere, especially the Internet.

The above not withstanding, my main reason in writing and editing this book is to make you laugh out loud. Taking a brief look at humor and how the Internet may have altered its face finishes a distant second to my desire to amuse you. Explaining how you may use humor to advantage in your life will be of interest but again, the meat of this coconut lies in the stories and Internet sites that can be used and revisited many times over.

E.B. White said, “Humor can be dissected, as can a frog, but both die.” Please consider my review of Internet humor and the secrets of using humor in life as back round information that will allow you to enjoy more fully the stories and websites shared here.

About the Author

Born in a rural area some twenty-five miles from Detroit, Michigan, Mike Turnbull was virtually raised by his maternal grandfather for the first ten years of his life. An appreciation of stories, jokes and tall tales was instilled at this formative time by a man who had been a Captain in the Czar’s cavalry before he came to the United States. After high school at Culver Military Academy in Indiana and college at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN., Mike came back to the Detroit area and went into the world of banking. In the mid-seventies, he acquired his own company. During all this time, Mike’s love of stories, jokes and tall tales never abated. He always attends two major storytelling events each year where he can share stories with people from all over the world .He also has become a devotee to the Internet. This book is a result of his lifelong love of the comic side of life .As his grandfather said, ‘Those who miss the joy in life, miss all.”
