About the Author

John W. Barrett, born in Cambridge, MA, grew up in Watertown, MA and completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Oblate College of The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in 1952. At that time he volunteered to serve in the Oblate Japanese Missions..Over the 20 years he spent as a teacher in Japanese high schools, and Kochi University and as a missionary in Shikoku, Kyushu and the Osaka and Tokyo areas, he tells of the humor and sadness deeply shared with "wonderful people who will have my esteem and affection forever".
