About the Book
Throughout History unbelievable tales of battlefield horrors have been handed down from one generation of barracks soldier to the next. Many of the stories are nothing more than the fabrications of yarn-spinning old timers for the fascination of their young audiences. Some are the result of too many beers in too many mugs in too many swill joints that dot the perimeter of military posts ... And some are true!
The story, which unfolds here, is based upon one of the accounts that has filtered down to us as part of the residue from the Vietnam War. The incident occurred during a crucial battle for hill 777 in central Vietnam.
Did it really happen? Or was the account just another tale from the barracks? Veterans of intense confrontations probably know wether or not it could have taken place. War, in its finest sense, is still an affront to humanity. But desperate men, faced with certain death, do drastic things to stay alive — to survive the moment.
Whom among us can sit in judgment without having shared the chilling horror of battle?
