About the Book

With this stunning debut collection, Feet, Exit 5 presents stories as diverse as the five authors who penned them. Of African descent, they are American, Caribbean, and British. They are male and female. They are writers whose tales of passion, intrigue, loss and survival lie at the heart of human experience. Their characters populate an unpredictable world in which some make bad choices while others surmount incredible odds. All of them struggle to make sense of their lives in voices that force us to listen. Figments of their creators´ imaginations, nevertheless, they mirror our own human need to have our stories, in all their infinite variety, heard.

About the Author

To exit is to find a way out of an enclosed place, to go beyond what’s on the stage. Bennett Capers, Florence Diallo, G. Winston James, Beverly Sloan and Sybil Leah-White formed Exit 5 in 1998 as a cooperative of New York City-based writers of African heritage (American, British, and Caribbean). These five writers engage discrete styles, forms and genres to express the multiplicity of their world-views on issues as diverse as the black migration up-south, middle class values, gay subculture, and Christian faith. Their work has been published in Shooting Star Review, Catalyst, African Voices, Callaloo, The Poughkeepsie Review, South Carolina Review and the Blithe House Quartlerly, among other publications.
