About the Book

The book, “The Lost Soul In The City Of No Souls”, is about a young boy, Tommy DeMarco, who grew up under tough circumstances in a large city called St. Thomas. Ever since his mother died when he was a young boy, he has been forced to make it on his own. His father, a useless drunk, could never get over the death of his wife, and was not able to take care of his two young sons, Tommy and Chris. Instead, the two brothers were forced to take care of themselves while growing up.

With no help from their father, except for some occasional food money every now and then, Tommy and Chris become very resourceful and do whatever they feel like. Tommy hangs around some criminal elements and picks up a lot of skills from the streets of the big city. And, as so many other teenagers, he loves to party and have fun. With no restrictions from any adult supervision, he gets himself in a lot of trouble, but nothing worse than that he can manage to get himself out of it as well. This, of course, makes him believe that he is invincible and he takes greater and greater risks in life. His little brother, Chris, shows the same behaviour.

However, one day the two brothers wake up to the biggest challenge ever. While being on a business trip abroad, their father goes missing. As a result the police and welfare department, well aware of the life the two boys live, show up to place both of them in some alternative care. To avoid ending up in a juvenile institution, Tommy makes a quick decision and runs away. Chris on the other hand, is not that lucky and is forcefully taken away. Tommy is now all alone, and ends up on the streets in a city where no one cares who you are, or what happens to you. Tommy is forced to find a way to survive and stay alive, so that he one day can be reunited with his brother. He now needs to rely on the resourcefulness and industriousness he acquired while growing up.

Without any hesitation, Tommy joins a group of other street kids, and resolve to crime as a way of survival. He already knows some influential people, and he manages to get himself a new name, Tommy Diesel, to keep the police from finding him. Tommy makes a lot of friends, and after a while, he becomes a powerful and influential person himself. But, as time passes, this new life he has acquired grows on him, and slowly his conscience and morality dies as he experience the hard and cold way things are done on the street. Through the things he see and hear, through the things he has to do, he finds a new and brutal part of himself that needs to express itself, and slowly Tommy becomes another lost soul in the city with no souls.
