About the Book

The songs involved remind the author of people and places and things that happened. Like 'The Girl That I Marry' reminds him of the afternoon in the shower room of Vesper Boat Club after rowing practice, when Jack Kelly told about going to see a show with his sister, Grace, the night before. And when he hears, 'Bei Mir Bis Du Schoen,' he thinks of the time that he ran away when he was young because in the movies, lots of things happened to kids like Mickey Rooney when they were on the road. ‘People’ puts him in mind of the night in Philadelphia when he saw Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl, and went to a local bar afterwards where there were other singers performing. The songs trigger memories, and the author describes the way life was at the time.

About the Author

AUTHOR’S COVER BIOGRAPHY Rich O’Brien grew up in a row home environment, and came through the Depression years with many memories of interesting people, the customs of the times, the war years, and what he heard on the radio. While he played no musical instrument, he loved good lyrics, and combined with a better-than-average memory, he could remember almost every song he heard. His time in the Marine Corps was relatively short, but a major influence on his life. Following college years that included rowing, travel, parties, and girls, he stumbled into the new electronics business. He lived in St.Davids, Pennsylvania with his wife and six children for many years, until moving to Florida. The book is based on memories of people and events and songs associated with them.
