About the Book
Turk, a feisty Texas bulldog, joins General George Custer’s household in 1865. He is extremely jealous of Byron, a snobbish greyhound who is the General’s favorite dog. In 1866 General Custer is ordered to Fort Hays, Kansas as Commander of the Seventh Cavalry. He takes his family, servants and dogs with him. Jealousy and curiosity keeps Turk in constant trouble and makes it impossible to join the Seventh Cavalry on their expeditions. Eventually Turk goes with the Seventh on a very important campaign, makes new friends and becomes a hero.
