About the Book

In her senior undergraduate thesis Guinevere Divided, Tara M. DellaFranzia explores the feminist ramifications of two modern, female-centric texts, which retell traditional Arthurian legend through a new perspective. Specifically, the thesis focuses on the infertility of Queen Guinevere, and the various representations of the woman’s sexuality throughout these retellings.

The flat nature of previous characterizations of women in Arthurian literature leaves much interpretation of these characters available for modern examination and definition. The author searches through popular revisionists’ characterizations to determine contemporary perception of infertility and the relevant role of women in Western society.
