About the Book

In this debut collection of poems, inspired over the past decade, readers step into a series of lyrical landscapes; to see and experience the places, people and poetry-at-play appearing and unfolding in the Poet´s deeper field of vision.

As a watercolorist might work, and often plein air, he renders them freshly, spontaneously, indelibly. From a tranquil harbor in Maine to a fanciful farmhouse in Holland. From observing a lunar eclipse, or being shaved in a Tuscan barber shop, to making family wine below the brownstoned surface of New York´s Upper West Side. From living portraits of friends, and magnesium flashes of memory, to a loving ode to the Poet’s own bed, his Great White Biscuit.

The world-roving writer often brings native language into various pieces written abroad; stippling them with Italian, Spanish, French, Dutch, as in La Barba / The Beard. To infuse a vocal flavor into the scenes and scenery he’s writing in, and musing about.

The constant thread in these 55 poems is the immediacy of seeing; not just with the eyes but through the lens of other senses; with the emotions and imagination. Color and texture are abundant; as are qualities and plays of light, and atmosphere; sometimes sound, or silence; motion; music; clouds; the sea.

When viewed with an innocent eye, and a wide openness of mind, body and spirit, the Poet believes that what we see around us, as we move through our lives, even the seemingly everyday, can be remarkable and luminous.
