About the Book

Ever since the great war with the Metok Thral, Shtai of the Val has been on the run from people who want to make her a hero.  Now, returning from a thirteen-year archaeological expedition on the galactic rim, she finds little of the peace she had hoped for:  religious upheaval is tearing apart her home planet, her family still treats her as an outcast, and her shadow daughter has been sent to Earth on a mission that may take her from Shtai forever.  To make matters worse, her team´s discoveries may destroy the Kinship of Peoples and plunge the galaxy into a war between Humans and other species.

When a former comrade-in-arms asks her to help save a peace summit with their old enemy, Shtai is forced to play the hero once again.  But after a century of hardship in the service of the Kinship, she may not have the will to confront the challenge of the Humanoid Trine, or the secrets of her own past.
