About the Book

Teach Yourself to Read is a first presentation by this author. Many of the keys in Teach Yourself to Read have been around for centuries. Many reader have learned to associate the alphabet letters with their sounds. I think reading is a skill that must be taught and practiced. Some individuals become confuse with how the letters make their sounds for reading and spelling. Mastery of the keys may come easy for some and other will wrestle with these letters and sounds for years. This is why Teach Yourself to Read was created. Teach Yourself to Read will show you how and where to place your speech helpers to make the letter sounds. Included is a grid for you to practice as you untangle words and become an independent reader as you Teach Yourself to Read.

About the Author

My name is Eunice Hill-Hall, all my life I have been what I call myself a poor reader. I never was the one who wanted to read out loud in school unless called upon. I have struggled with the school subjects and was afraid of being found. I might have dropped out if I could have thought that far in the future in those days, since I was an African descent teenager in the segregated south in the 1960’s and housework was something I couldn’t imagine myself doing as a life’s work. I graduated from high school a few years behind the group. I started with in the first grade and always felt inadequate in comparison to them. Only, to find in the later years, they had fared as well or better than me as far as having meaningful employment and many of the same experiences in life. Over the years I became the first college graduate in the family and received my undergraduate and master’s degrees. I always loved writing and reading. Several years I developed a way of using the “Wa’Set Method” to untangle unfamiliar words. To further overcome my fear of reading some years ago I found a talking dictionary and this became my security that when I applied “Wa’Set Method” I was correct in being able to say the word. I have worked as a speech pathologist and found that student with articulation problems, who entered the program and knew their letter sounds were being dismissed earlier from therapy. I also, noted that students that I tutored who had struggled in the therapy articulation and language therapy, were poor readers and spellers after remedial reading intervention across all grades. Along with the other needed intervention services these students had not learned the basics of the association of the letters and their sounds. Teach Yourself to Read , was born out of me wanting to be able to untangle unfamiliar words and to share this discovery with my niece and others who share my need to be a better reader. I am retired and live in Canal Winchester, Ohio. I hope Teach Yourself to Read will bring you the independent s you seek and assist you in reaching your goal as you Teach Yourself to Read , enjoy.
