About the Book

This unusual book consists of a long, narrative poem followed by a selection of new short poems. The title poem is exceptional in its form and in its wide scope and range, weaving together images of a life, dream-like narrative scenes, into a lyrical story. Its protagonist is a complex man of the northwest woods, whose life is played out for him in a fantastical adventure. The Hawk sets the tone for the set of short poems of a more conventional and reflective form that follow. This small volume is an adventure in the art of poetry through pictures of struggle and memory, an affection for the land, and a search for meaning and the future.

From KIRKUS REVIEWS,
“Galas’ first collection of poetry is substantial of breadth and sure of voice, … poems digested slowly offer the exceptional pleasures of poetry.”
