About the Book
Realizations is a collection of 122 poems, spanning about 3 decades of Preetam Giani's life. Each poem embodies the creative crystallization of thoughts and feelings which he perceived at the time to be real and true. Together they constitute a comprehensive record of the developments in the character of a highly unusual person and poet.
About the Author
Born in 1949 in Murree, Pakistan, Preetam Giani was educated at Burn Hall, Abbottabad, Pakistan; Aitchison College, Lahore, Pakistan; Government College, Lahore, Pakistan; and Selwyn College, Cambridge, England. He started writing verse in English when eleven years old, and has continued sporadically since then. In 1975, he self-published a collection of poems, Manhood's New Day, which appears as Part 1 of Realizations. He is currently working on an English translation of the best Urdu verse of Mirza Ghalib, the great 19th Century Urdu poet. In 1987, he changed his name from Mahboob Ghani to Preetam Giani. He presently lives in Abbottabad, Pakistan and, apart from writing verse and prose, runs a gay counselling service.
