About the Book

Guppies are easy to reproduce, however, it is not that easy to breed specific colours and shapes. Who ever reproduced „common“ guppies from a pet shop will probably be able to tell a story about how unforeseeable colour and shape of the fry were. This sometimes as chaos described behaviour of guppy genetics can be handled with that little bit of extra knowledge, making a planned breeding possible.

This book will start with a detailed introduction into the main aspects of guppy breeding. The basics will be kept short and the second chapter will contain an extensive discussion about genetics followed by a description of some common guppy strains. Certainly the choice of breeding strains isn’t complete, this volume contains not enough pages and beside that the development is progressing rapidly. Nevertheless shall this book mediate the understanding of breeding available guppy strains and also widen the existing knowledge.

Besides others the Japanese breed Blue Grass and Japan Blue will be discussed, the original German breed Halfblacks (Halbschwarz) and Platinum (Metallic), and the in Singapore perfected Snakeskin guppies. Also explained will be the in Russia developed Moscow guppies, some fin shapes and various pigmentation mutations, such as albinism.
