Based on extensive interviews with children from 7-14, this books cover all the major themes and controversies that surround our very colorful, sometimes glorious and sometimes painful national story. While the youngsters are often impressive in their knowledge of American history, their apocryphal tales and embellishments produce laugh-a-minute entertainment as well. And sometimes, their views or our values and beliefs, of our social challenges and our wars, and of our progress as a nation are downright poignant and moving -- lessons for all of us at any age or position in life. About the Author

David Heller, Ph.D. is the author of twenty previous books, and numerous other foreign and paperback versions. His books were selected by The Literary Guild and The Book-of-the-Month Club, among others, and he has won several book prizes. Among his works are Dear God: Children’s Letters To God (Doubleday, Bantam, Perigee), Love Is Like A Crayon Because It Comes In All Colors (Villard/Random House), The Best Christmas Presents Are Wrapped in Heaven (Villard), Mr. President Why Don’t You Paint Your White House Another Color! Dr. Heller is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Harvard. He received his doctorate in clinical psychology from The University of Michigan, and has a longstanding private practice in the heart of Boston.
