About the Author
The Slamina Moon was written and illustrated by a son and mother team. Eric Polins and Anna Reinstein Polins began conceptualizing The Slamina Moon in late 1990 after their dog Sasha, a Siberian Husky inspired them. One cold December night in Reading, Pennsylvania, Anna was walking Sasha when suddenly the dog dove into a snow bank after a rabbit. Anna yelled, “Sasha, you leave that Runny Babbit alone!” Laughing, she told her son Eric about the adventure, and they both decided it would make a great children’s book. While the two worked on the book, life brought many changes. Eric finished college at The Pennsylvania State University and Anna worked on the book’s illustrations during breaks as an art teacher at Central Catholic High School in Reading, Pennsylvania. A decade went by, and Sasha passed away in May of 2000. Eugene R. Polins, Eric’s father and Anna’s husband of 27 years had also passed away in 1986. More than ever, Eric and Anna sought to finish the book and dedicate it to both Eugene and Sasha. Today, Eric lives in Tampa, Florida where he is a managing partner at a marketing consulting firm. He and his wife, Maria, have a St. Bernard named Winfield, three cats (Zzoee, Templeton, and Aslan) and a new dog, Brutus, a five-year-old Newfoundland that they rescued. Anna now teaches art part-time at a St. Petersburg prep school, sharing her home with an alley cat named Ciro. © 1989 U.S. Library of Congress TXu-865-394. The Slamina Moon.
