About the Book

The story begins on a dreary night in rural Georgia, when a baby is born.

The mother dies the next morning, leaving a baby girl behind. The child’s name is Bobbie Jean Mason. She is adopted by a family who later decides to go separate ways. But Bobbie Jean spends her entire life waiting for her adopted mother to return and rescue her from the ruins of a prejudice world. She finds herself clinging to everything and everyone who shows her that there a glimmer of hope in this life. She falls in and out of love, hopelessly. BJ is surrounded by friends who are only interested in their own well-being. There are many twists and turns that make this work so eccentric. Bobbie Jean lives with her grandmother who tries to protect her from the evils of the world, the best that she knows how. No Wooden Nickels is a novel of rare wisdom about life, daughters, men, boys, and friends who become mothers. A powerful story of strength and hope of black women everywhere who have ever had a dream. About the Author

Ms. J.Nell Ford was born in Lyons, Georgia, where she attended Lyons Industrial High. Upon graduation she continued her education by matriculating at the Fort Valley State College, one the Historically Black Colleges in the United States (HBC). She taught school at Toombs County High for a number of years. She is currently teaching at Glynn Academy, in Brunswick, Georgia. She has one son, Demetrius. NO WOODEN NICKELS is her first novel.
