About the Book
When an idealistic young lawyer finds that he and the woman he idolizes have witnessed a murder in progress, he rushes into an investigation that leads to a labyrinth of secrets and lies. The more Adams learns about her and her celebrated family, the more deeply they are implicated in crimes and coverups. While disillusionment with the privileged family begins to test his character, a sudden tragedy then shakes his commitment to the pursuit of justice. A criminal case involving a complete stranger thus becomes the hero’s journey of discovery, and many false gods topple before the initial mystery is solved.
About the Author
Cornelia Tree lives in New York where, she says, it is difficult to write books. The city is too thrilling if you are part of it and too isolating if you are not. She nonetheless has written five other books, including a Book of the Month Club choice. Her novel Child of the Night (1985) won a gold medal award. She loves movies, walking on the Hudson River embankment, and visiting New York’s tango club, where wonderful dancers congregate.
