About the Book

Aunt Sadie Hill, a childless widow must take-in her sister’s child when the father leaves knowing his wife is dying. At fourteen, working at Hill’s Grocery, Clara accepts the uncaring, demanding ‘banty hen’, keeping out of her way. Growing-up and in love, Clara and Henry marry suddenly and Aunt Sadie turns them out in anger. The family grows with God’s blessings out of the blue. Aunt Sadie realizes Clara is a strong, loving mother because of the early care-giving and faith in God. Can Sadie forgive her niece’s father for leaving Clara with her dying mother?

About the Author

My chemist husband was called to seminary to study Christian youth-work, after we had three daughters. It was a wonderful challenge. When the girls were all in school, I enjoyed teaching kindergarten. Always interested in crafts, I learned to make porcelain dolls and for ten years produced many ‘babies and children’, teaching the art, also. I’m very proud of our family: three daughter-grandma’s, married to three loving husband-grandpa’s, seven grandchildren who chose super spouses, all making a difference in the world while producing fourteen darling children. How blessed can one be? After turning eighty, I began writing. This is my first!
