About the Author

Peter Batke was born in Vienna, Austria in 1947 and moved to North Carolina at the age of 10. Secondary School in Raleigh was followed by a long student life at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill: BA ’68, MA ’71 and PhD in 1979 with a dissertation on the modern Austrian novel. After some post-graduate work in Vienna, a soft-money job in New York and a stint as a roofer in Philadelphia, Dr. Batke worked at Duke, Johns Hopkins and Princeton in the brand new field of computer based educational technology, specifically, computing for the humanities: literature, history, languages, art and music. Dr. Batke left Princeton in 2001 and moved to North Carolina to care for his ailing mother. After the death of his mother, Dr. Batke accepted a position a Cambridge University to make a web interface for a database of illustrated Persian manuscripts and is currently working on several concurrent writing projects.
