The family moves to California and the children’s father Deon is back in their life. He constantly beats and starves Sarah Jean’s brother Steve because he believes that he is not his son. Deon also beats Rayna, and she justifies against him, resulting in his incarceration. Rayna’s life spirals downward into drinking and having loud parties that often go on for day. Steady streams of men come into her life, and they physically abuse her like Deon. Sarah Jean’s closest friend dies in a house and this plunges her into depression. She runs away and Rayna beats and starves her for three days. Sarah Jean runs away again and lives in dumpsters. Marcy introduces her to drugs and stealing, and she meets men who rape and beat her. She is send to a Juvenile detention home and then a psychiatric ward. She become pregnant and tries her best to care for her daughter Cindy.

About the Author

Surviving the 60’s, I did see a change come. I became a mother in the 70’s. I was booming. Floating through the 80’s, drugs was a way of life. Wandering through 90’s, I began to wonder were the time had gone. The year 2000 came. That is when realized I wasted a lot of time having a good time knowing but not caring about how fast time slips away. Somebody told me time would tell. Question: tell what? How badly I treated time or how good time was to me. In any event, let the time you spend with me be pleasant as well as a great time to make the best of your time. Let the people around you know there is not enough time on this earth to show all the love you have to give. Let them know that the spent loving them is still not enough time for you! Also, learn how to be nice to time you never know. He might have feeling too. Hey…time is something to think about.
