About the Book

When Art Fielder, editor-publisher of the Little Bang, TX, daily Gazette, loses the love of his life to cancer, he is shocked and embarrassed at how quickly a bereaved person’s attitude about romance can change from in-mourning-negative to aroused-positive. As he becomes the center of attraction for the town’s most glamorous bachelor women, Fielder’s thoughts return to what he calls “Square One” — Beatrice Wiltsey, an unforgettable college girlfriend who dropped him for another man nearly 30 years ago. Interspersed is the shocking death (murder?) of a friend’s wife with whom Art once had a brief affair. Then follows, in a series of witty, poignant and amusing chapters, the attempted capture of Fielder’s heart by a handful of would-be wives (or mistresses or whatever), as played out in Texas, Boston, Chicago, and Paris, France. Indeed, “The Fielder Heart” is itself a second-time-around tale, as revealed in the author’s foreword.
