About the Book
Most discussions and information about education that reach the public emanate from sources other than active or retired school officials. A Principal Speaks presents a view of many of the aspects of school life, the teaching-learning process and education in general, by an educator of almost 32 years.
The book begins by discussing children and their characteristics and expands into major areas that affect their progress. The author uses his experiences and observations to extract facts with which he formulates conclusions and makes recommendations, many of which are outlined in the contents. Sources of material include school and classroom activities, not referenced works.
About the Author
John Hodnett, Jr., was born to sharecroppers on a tobacco farm in Blanch, Caswell County, North Carolina in 1928. He worked on the farm until graduating from high school at age 16. The family then moved to Danville, Virginia, due to the illness of his father, where John worked as a domestic chauffeur and butler for the next two years. In addition, he was an officer in the Navy during the Korean War. He has enjoyed working as a teacher, department chairman, program coordinator, assistant principal, principal, and personnel administrator.
