About the Book

DONALD is a dedication to a truly fascinating, retarded gentleman from my home-town, Alta, Iowa. Alta is situated in the northwest section of the state in a predominately farming and livestock-producing area.

In the early 1940´s, when I first met Donald, there were no developmental nor training programs available to those unfortunate souls so afflicted. Society was neither prepared, nor equipped, to treat and assist families with members plagued by these profound deficiencies.

DONALD relates the community’s adoption of Donald as a citizen, friend and human being.
