“The Soul of a Black Woman” is a collection of the many works Cynthia began writing as a child and is still compiling. It’s the culmination of her life’s pains and pleasures up to this point. With voices that range from the innocent whispers of a curious, insecure girl to the confident, resounding shouts of a mature, insightful woman, she tells a powerful story of remarkable transformation. From “At the Window” to the title poem, Cynthia gives the reader a glimpse into the ups and downs, disappointments and discoveries, mistakes and milestones that have shaped her.
About the Author
Cynthia Hooks was born Cynthia Renee Highsmith in Hempstead, New York. She discovered a talent for the written word at an early age, writing her first story when she was just six. Over the years, she has continued writing short stories, but poetry is her first love. She’s been published in annual poetry anthologies; “The Soul of a Black Woman” is her first solo compilation. Cynthia is currently working on two novels. She lives in Riverside County, California with her husband Walter, their son Maurice and her mother, Anna.
